Finances and a sample budget
The cost of the surgery will affect how many people come to your clinic. A full days’ pay at minimum wage nets only around $52; those unable to go elsewhere are our most important clients. Your prices should be based on the cost of providing the services; many people who cannot afford a three hundred dollar spay also cannot afford a one hundred dollar spay. Affordability is the key.
This model is, “no-frills,” meaning there is no transport component and no wellness (except vaccines and parasite treatment at the time of surgery). Wellness services may bring in a few extra clients, but providing extra services increases the need for labor and can increase cost. Maintaining low cost is vital.
The model ideally operates one to four days per week. The costs here are outlined on a per diem basis.
